About Golden, Colorado -  View properties available in Golden

Welcome to Golden!Golden, Colorado was founded during the gold rush of 1859, however its first inhabitants included the Ute, Arapaho, and Cheyenne tribes. Although Golden was the site of the Territorial Capital from 1862 to 1867, it lost the state capital to Denver when Colorado achieved statehood. Instead, the town grew as a supply center for the mining districts in the mountains to the west.

Coors BreweryThe Coors brewery founded by German immigrant Adolph Coors, is another early enterprise that has had a lasting influence in Golden. Brewery tours have become a major attraction for visitors coming to Golden. In the early 1900s, Coors branched out into ceramics manufacturing (now named CoorsTek), a sideline that later helped sustain the company during Prohibition.

In 1870, Golden became the site of the Colorado School of Mines. Today this world-class institution offers degree programs that include engineering, geology, and environmental sciences.

Buffalo BillWilliam “Buffalo Bill” Cody’s relationship with Golden began in 1859 panning for gold, however he was best know for his world-famous “Buffalo Bill’s Wild West” show. “Buffalo Bill” Cody died in 1917 and requested his burial site atop Lookout Mountain. His museum is a popular Golden tourist attraction and offers spectacular views of Colorado's "Front Range" from Boulder to Pikes Peak (Colorado Springs).

The Colorado Railroad Museum provide a up-close view of how railroads shaped the west with over 70 historic locomotives and train cars.

Colorado Railroad MuseumWith a diversified local economy, a thriving downtown, Golden balances the challenge of retaining its small town identity in the face of Denver's metropolitan suburbs, ensuring that Golden's heritage lives on for future generations to enjoy.
Just west of Golden is the Central Mountain District, that includes the foothills communities of Golden Gate Canyon, Lookout Mountain, Paradise Hills, Cody Park, Riva Chase, Genesee, Spring Ranch, Chief Hosa, Rainbow Hills and El Rancho. Here you will find mountain living at it’s best, with an easy commute not only to Denver, but to the best skiing in the world.
